How to choose and use power tools correctly?

Electric tools are usually divided into eight categories according to the processing objects: metal cutting tools (such as electric drills, electric scissors, electric profile cutting machines, etc.); grinding tools (such as angle grinders, etc.); woodworking tools (such as electric circular saws, electric planers, etc.); assembly tools (such as electric screwdrivers, etc.); construction tools (such as electric hammers, impact drills, stone cutting machines, etc.); agricultural and gardening tools, and other tools.

Electric tools have the advantages of easy use, high speed, small size, light weight, large starting torque, and strong overload capacity. They are widely used in industry, construction, decoration, auto repair, gardening and other industries. It is understood that my country currently consumes about 8 million electric tools of various types each year, of which nearly 3 million are imported from abroad, and the number is growing.

The main features of electric tools are small size, high power, easy to carry, and wide use. So what points should we pay attention to when purchasing and using them?

When purchasing, you should choose electric tools produced by regular manufacturers. Each tool should be accompanied by a certificate of conformity and instructions. It is recommended to run the electric tool at no load when purchasing a handheld tool, and observe the sparks at the brush and the noise of the tool. Generally, tools with stable quality have small sparks when no load, and the sound is uniform and noiseless. If there is a power meter to monitor the power of the handheld tool, the no-load power generally does not exceed 90% of the rated power. And give priority to the use of Class II tools (with the “return” symbol printed on the nameplate) and Class III tools (safety extra-low voltage power supply). Class I tools are not recommended because due to their structural design characteristics, they have high requirements for external protection and are prone to electric shock accidents.

When using, you must have a clear understanding of the use occasions and requirements of different types of electric tools.

When using Class III tools, they must be used at the same time as safety isolation transformers, and pay attention to the matching of the rated voltage of the tool with the output voltage of the safety isolation transformer to prevent overvoltage purchase of tools from burning.

Class II electric tools can fully guarantee safety under the specified conditions of use. However, the sealing performance is poor. When used outdoors in damp or bad weather, the insulation is easy to absorb moisture and reduce its dielectric strength. When using, be careful not to use Class II tools outdoors in rain or snow.

Because the safety of Class I tools must be guaranteed not only from the design and manufacturing of the tools, but more importantly, from the entire grounding system and overcurrent protection system. At present, the maintenance of the grounding system of some factories and enterprises and construction projects is not perfect, and it is difficult to ensure that the grounding resistance is maintained for a long time. Therefore, it is very difficult to prevent electric shock casualties when using Class I power tools. Therefore, when using Class I power tools, especially in dangerous workplaces, residual current action protectors must be attached. From a safety perspective, Class I tools should not be used in open-air workplaces. In addition, the power cord of Class I tools is not allowed to be arbitrarily extended or disassembled to prevent accidents caused by the possible misconnection of the protective grounding with the phase line.

At the same time, before using power tools, operators should carefully read the instruction manual to understand the operating procedures and correct usage of the tools to avoid misoperation. With the change of the standard for power tools, there are strict requirements for the content of the manual, and the operability is also very strong. Therefore, please be sure to read the instructions carefully, operate and troubleshoot in strict accordance with the instructions, choose appropriate power tools according to different functions, and prohibit unauthorized modification and use of tools.
